BDSM: Bondage and Discipline (BD), Sadism and Masochism (SM). Some people overlap this definition saying, adding Dominance and Submission (DS). In my opinion, dominance and submission are inherent in Bondage, Discipline, Sadism and Masochism. Therefore, adding Dominance and Submission is redundant. (My definition)

Bondage: Sexual practices involving the physical restraint of one partner

Discipline: Control that is gained by requiring that rules or orders be obeyed and punishing bad behavior

Masochism: Sexual enjoyment from being abused, hurt, or punished

Masochist: Someone who likes masochism.

Sadism: Sexual gratification obtained by the infliction of physical or mental pain on others


Sadist: Someone who enjoys sadism

Dominance: Preeminence over another; exercise of mastery, or influence

Dominant (top): A person, of either gender, displaying dominance

Dominatix (Domme): A woman who controls and.or hurts her partner during sexual activity in order to give her partner sexual pleasure. *Additional info from me: Some women are professional Dominatrixes who dominate others for money. This does not need to include sex acts because many people are aroused without intercourse. Although more rare, there are also professional Doms and subs. Here, unless specifically noted otherwise, I am talking about non-professional Dommes/Doms and subs.

Dom: A man who controls and/or hurts his partner during sexual activity in order to give his partner sexual pleasure

Submissive (sub, bottom): Willing to obey someone else

Slave: One that is completely subservient to a dominating influence [For my purposes, NOT legally owned, or illegally coerced into/held in servitude]

Kink: Unconventional sexual taste or behavior

Kinky: Sexual behaviors or tastes that are unconventional

Kinkster: Someone with unconventional sexual tastes or behaviors

Fetish: A need or desire for an object, body part, or activity for sexual excitement
